Wincanton is a town and civil parish in Somerset. It sits on the north-east edge of the Blackmore Vale, close to the borders of Dorset and Wiltshire. Its built-up area had 6,745 residents at the 2021 census. The town lies just off the A303, one of the main routes between London and the South West.

The name means “estate on the River Cale”, and the river still runs through the town. Wincanton gained a market and fair charter in 1556. However, fires in 1707 and 1747 destroyed a great part of the town. The Dogs, a Grade I listed house from around 1650, survived, and the Town Hall dates from 1878.

Since April 2023, Somerset Council has been the unitary authority for Wincanton. Before that, the town sat in the South Somerset district. Wincanton also has its own town council, which looks at local planning applications.
