Weston-super-Mare is a seaside town and civil parish in North Somerset, within the ceremonial county of Somerset. It lies by the Bristol Channel, between Worlebury Hill and Bleadon Hill. At the 2021 census, its built-up area had 84,605 residents.
Weston was still a small village until the 19th century, when it grew as a seaside resort. A railway station and two piers followed. The Grand Pier, the nearer of the two to the main streets, opened in 1904. The architect Hans Price designed much of the Victorian architecture that gives the town its character.
The town expanded in 1932, when Worle and Uphill joined it. After the war, new estates went up at Coronation in the 1950s and Oldmixon in the 1960s. Later, the M5 opened in the 1970s, and new building spread east around Worle and Locking Castle.
