Gloucester is a cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire. It lies on the River Severn, between the Cotswolds to the east and the Forest of Dean to the west. Around 118,600 people lived in its built-up area at the 2021 census.

The Docks and the older quarters

Gloucester is an inland port, linked to the Severn Estuary by the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal. The Docks hold fourteen Victorian warehouses, which are now listed buildings. After a period of decline, they were renovated in the 1980s.

Kingsholm was the site of a Roman fort. Today it is home to Kingsholm Stadium, where Gloucester Rugby have played since 1891. Barnwood lies about 1.8 miles east of the centre, while Hucclecote sits between Barnwood and Brockworth along Ermin Way.
