Westbury is a market town and civil parish in west Wiltshire. At the 2021 census, its built-up area had 16,395 residents. The town lies below the north-western edge of Salisbury Plain. Trowbridge sits about 4 miles to the north in a straight line, and Warminster a similar distance to the south.

The Westbury White Horse overlooks the town from a slope up to Salisbury Plain, in the neighbouring parish of Bratton. Its present form dates from a restoration in 1778. An Iron Age or Bronze Age hill fort sits immediately above the figure. Wiltshire Council is the unitary authority for the town.

Westbury centres on its historic marketplace and All Saints’ Church, which was largely rebuilt in the 1430s. The town was a centre of the cloth industry from the later 15th century. Later growth, however, came from its place where two railway lines meet.

Iron ore was found just north of the town in the 1840s, while the railway was being built. Opencast mines and furnaces followed, although production had stopped by 1925. The urban area has since grown to take in Westbury Leigh, Chalford and Frogmore. Other suburbs include Bitham Park and The Ham.

A rail-served cement plant also stood north-east of the town from 1962. Cement production ended in 2009, and most of the site came down in 2016. Its silos remain in use as a distribution centre.
