Cheltenham’s built-up area had 115,940 residents at the 2021 census, making it the second largest settlement in Gloucestershire after Gloucester. It became a spa town after mineral springs were found in 1716. Today it claims to be the most complete Regency town in Britain, and many of its buildings are listed.
