A valley city where the older streets carry the longer runs
Truro is Cornwall’s county town and only city. It gained city status in 1877, and its cathedral was built between 1880 and 1910. It lies at the meeting of the rivers Kenwyn and Allen, which join as the Truro River.
The valleys form a steep bowl around the city on the north, east and west. As a result, that setting shapes where an outdoor unit ends up, and what a repair engineer finds.
Near the centre, Lemon Street still holds elegant Georgian and Victorian townhouses. An older townhouse often keeps its unit in a sheltered spot. That siting tends to mean a longer pipe run than a modern property needs. As a result, a slow leak can take longer to trace there.
The city has grown along the slopes of that bowl, and out along the A390 towards Threemilestone. Kenwyn and Moresk lie to the north, Newham to the south, and Highertown, Treliske and Gloweth to the west. A newer home in these areas usually has simpler access.
