We have been installing domestic heat pumps and air conditioning units for over 25 years now, and we have many customers on our books throughout Devon and Cornwall. We have even carried out installations in central London and surrounding areas.
It is common knowledge that heat pumps reduce the cost of heating, but over the last 3-4 years there has been a large investment by companies such as Mitsubishi, Hitachi, LG, Samsung, Daikin and Toshiba to produce even higher efficiency units aimed directly at the domestic market.
As the Government strives to reduce CO2 emissions, people are now becoming more aware of the benefits of installing heat pumps as a cost effective and economical way of heating their homes.
With heat pumps now able to give over 5kw of heat for every 1kw used, it is easy to see how these new systems can pay for themselves very quickly. Home owners can expect between 30-80% reduction in their heating costs simply by installing this new technology.
Many people are aware of ground source heat pumps. This is where tubes are laid under the ground or a bore hole drilled to recover heat from the earth. The problem with this type of system is you have to have a fairly large garden which would need to be dug up for the pipes to be laid. Because of the amount of work required to install this type of heat pump, the capital cost is quite expensive and the pay back period is long.
The new systems, on the other hand, don't require your garden to be dug up or labour intensive installation. They work on a simple air-to-air or air-to-water system, using the same principle as your fridge, only in reverse, and are much more efficient. All that's needed to install the new heat pump is a small outside area. The pump is then connected to either your existing heating system, new radiator, under floor heating or the latest high efficiency, ultra quiet fan coil unit.
Heat pumps are so flexible, they can be installed to cover one room or an entire house. Some heat pumps will also give total climate control to give both low cost heating and comfort cooling as well. These type of systems are especially suited to conservatories, loft conversions and bedrooms. There are even systems that remove bacteria, viruses, and odours from the air, which are particularly beneficial for people with asthma, eczema, hay fever and bronchial problems. In fact, Samsung has now developed a unit with a unique virus doctor that claims to remove even the MIR virus.
